San Josè – Cortijo de Monsul.

<italiano>

We are in the Nijar Natural Park, near San José. To reach this cortijo we must take the dirt road that leads from San Josè to the beautiful beaches in the area: Playa de los Genoveses and Playa de Monsul.

Just after the Molino del Collado, the Camino del Romeral begins on our right. This dirt road, passing inland from the coastal road, finally comes out at Playa de Monsul, right next to the car park.

This is a very important area from a cinematographic point of view: you immediately come across the Cortijo de los Genoveses (the Alamogordo prison in Per qualche Dollaro in più), then you pass by Finca Romeral, an estate whose buildings have been used in many films and, finally, you reach the Cortijo de Monsul (starting from Playa de Monsul, the route is shorter but the road is always closed by a chain and can only be covered on foot).

Indeed, the road is often chain-locked at both entrances. I walked it, more or less for six kilometres.

Indeed, I wwant say something more. Visitors are not welcome. I was badly chased away to all the places I wanted to photograph. In particular, in the Cortijo de Monsul, I was greeted by an elderly shepherd, rifle in hand, with two growling and threatening dogs. So… keep an eye out.

That’s why I couldn’t take good enough photos. However, in the following, I propose what I managed to do.

The location is also present on Google Maps; the coordinates are: 36.7514568,-2.1512044.

For this location I selected shots from:

  • Johnny Yuma, 1966, directed by Romolo Guerrieri
  • Faccia a Faccia, 1967, directed by Sergio Sollima
  • …e per Tetto un Cielo di Stelle, 1968, directed by Giulio Petroni
  • Spara, Gringo, Spara, 1968 , directed by Bruno Corbucci
  • Chiedi Perdono a Dio…non a Me, 1968, directed by Vincenzo Musolino
